William Con Proctor, Jr.
William Con Proctor, Jr., 84, of Halifax, died Friday, June 25, 2010 at Heritage Hospital in Tarboro.
Mr. Proctor was a native of Nash County, the son of the late William Con Proctor, Sr. and Helen Foil Proctor.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II in the European Theater, 19th infantry. He graduated from N.C. State University, Taubeta Phi Honorary Mechanical Engineering Society, where he received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He then went to work with J.A. Jones Construction Company of Charlotte, of late becoming Vice-President. After retiring, he and his wife of 61 years moved to Halifax, NC. He became a city councilman and later Mayor.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Gregory Proctor; his daughter, Helen P. Partridge and her husband, Ed, of Concord; two sons, William Con Proctor, III and his wife, Cindy, of Ashville, and Fredrick Gregory Proctor and his wife, Debbie, of Jackson, Miss; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at St. Marks Episcopal Church in Halifax with Rev. Ben Duffey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites.
Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements. The family will receive friends at the home.

The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Proctor’s service to his country.
